When You Don’t Understand Math – What Do You Do? 🤔

Math can be a difficult course to learn, but things can get easier once you start asking questions. The sooner you ask the questions about what you don’t understand, the sooner you will be on the right path to better understanding the material.

But what can you do besides asking questions? Let’s say you get home & start your homework, but quickly realize you are stuck and don’t know what to do.

Here’s what I did. ⚠️This is time-consuming⚠️

This step was so easy, and I wish I had thought of it earlier in my academic career. Whenever I had trouble with homework problems, I would re-write my notes from class. All the notes! 🥴This activated my mind-muscle connection. I learn better through hearing AND writing.

Here are a few pros to this strategy:

  1. This helped me to re-remember what was taught in class.
  2. This gave me another chance to think about what was taught & rework examples from class with a better understanding.

Here is the big con of this strategy:

  1. This is very time-consuming!

Give this technique a try the next time you are stuck with your homework or examples worked in class. Let me know how it goes.

Are there other strategies you use when you don’t understand? Let me know in the comments below.
